Motorhoming in the Var

Motorhoming in the Var

Known as the ‘land of blue’, the Côte d’Azur, the Var profits from the blue of the Mediterranean and the incredible riches it offers, and the blue of the sky which gives the countryside of the Var its stunning colours.  Who hasn’t heard of Saint Tropez, frequented by the likes of Bardot and Picasso amongst others.  Despite all of its famous visitors, Saint Tropez, originally a fishing village, has managed to keep its authentic charm and it’s a pleasure to play pétanque, the local game of boules in the square Place des Lices, sip a ‘pastis’ on terrace or wander along the port to admire or gasp at the oversized yachts.

The coastal town of Fréjus benefits from ten or so kilometres of beach as well as a rich historical heritage and heading directly north is Seillans, listed amongst the ‘most beautiful villages of France’.  This medieval village with its 11th century church, 12th century chapel, château and cobble stoned alleys possesses one of Frances richest heritages.  Today the labyrinth of little streets are full of flowers and bathed in the sunlight which highlights the colours of the pink roof tiles and the yellow and grey of the stone.

For a real seaside treat visit the town of Hyères known as ‘the city of palms’. It is an area rich in natural wonders with its white sandy beaches, Mediterranean forests, salt planes and the little island of Giens just off the coast.  It is also known as the ‘capital of the cut flower’, has a ‘label’ for its clean beaches and is labelled Station Nautique.

Make the most of the free Aires de Service in the Var while travelling along the Côte d’Azur.  There are lots of villages and coastal towns to visit not to mention the open nature of the ‘arrière pays such as the ‘massifs’ of Esterel, Maures and Sainte Baume.  Continue your motorhome travel in France in the neighbouring department – go motorhoming in the Bouches du Rhône.
