Motorhoming in the Vaucluse

Motorhoming in the Vaucluse
If, while motorhoming in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur you find yourself in the Vaucluse all your senses will be delighted by the wonders of this department.  Whether it be the lavender, the olives, the strawberries, the melons or indeed the wine, it’s a feast for the eyes as well as tickling the taste buds.
If you’re hiring a motorhome in France or hiring a motorhome in England you could start your trip in the historic town of Avignon.  Subject of a very well known children’s nursery rhyme, its bridge, the Pont d’Avignon allowed the inhabitants to cross the Rhône and contributed to the development of the town, which rivalled Rome and saw 9 Popes reside in its palaces.  There is lots to see of interest making Avignon one of the most visited towns in the world.  From Avignon you will also be close to Mont Ventoux which offers a 360° view over Provence.  Three roads head to the summit at over 1900m of altitude and there are also lots of footpaths for hikers.  The weather station on the summit is witness to the summer heat waves but also the winds which can reach up to 200km/h – hold on to your hat!  The sides of the mountain have a wonderful mix of flora.  Passing through the lavender and the olive groves at the foot of the mountain, the cedars give way to mountain pines before the arctic rock plants take over the higher slopes.
Make the most of your time and motorhome travel in France to sample the local specialities.  Visit the town of Cavaillon with its Roman remains and sample the local speciality, the melon of Cavaillon with its juicy and perfumed orange flesh.  The Vaucluse is also home to the prestigious and world renowned wine, Châteauneuf-du-Pape which takes its name from the village next to Avignon where the Popes had their residence.  If a little wine tasting takes your fancy you can also visit the vineyards of Beaumes-de-Venise which produce wines in the family of Côtes du Rhone.
If you need to stop over, take advantage of the free Aires de Service in the Vaucluse before going motorhoming in the Bouches de Rhône or motorhoming in the Alpes de Haut Provence.
