Motorhoming On The Cote D'Armor

MOTORHOMING ON THE COTE D’ ARMOR

The Côte d’ Armor is one of four departments in the region of Bretagne, or Brittany as we know it.  It is a region of outstanding beauty, with miles of breathtaking coastline.  Fabulous golden sandy beaches, a coastline protected by its pink granite, particular to the region, also known as the pink granite coast.  If you’re thinking of hiring a motorhome in France , Côte d’ Armor is a perfect destination not too far away from home and just to the west of the port of Saint Malo.  Treat yourself to this visual feast and sample the local specialities at the same time.

Going west from Saint Malo in the neighbouring department of Ille et Vilaine, the town of Dinan is a good starting point.  The French defended the town against the English as far back as 1357 and it possesses the biggest ramparts in Bretagne, up to 75m high.  Stroll through the medieval streets and then go down to the old port to sample some local specialities on the banks of the river Rance.  From there take the coastal route.

If you’re ideal is the sea and sand, Motorhome travel in France is at its best following the coastal route of the Côte d’ Armor.  You’ll find so many beautiful sandy beaches, some with surfable waves, you won’t know which to choose.  Always heading west towards the town of Saint Brieuc, take in the golden sands of Saint Cast Le Guildo; Cap Frehel where you can visit the Fort La Latte, a superb 14th century château; Les-Sables-d’Or-Les-Pins, seaside town created in the second half of the 20th century with a huge beach; Erquy and Pléneuf-Val-André.

Continue west from Saint Brieuc towards the Island of Bréhat.  You’ll have to park up because motor transport is forbidden on this tiny island, 3.5km by 1.5km.  This oasis, blessed by a micro climate carried along by the Gulf Stream, harbours 120 species of birds and is also called the Island of Flowers.  As well as species brought back by the local sailors from all around the world there are also species of plants and trees specific to Bretagne.  Climb up to the highest point of the island for an exceptional panorama of this little paradise.

Continue round the coast to Perros Guirec, a charming seaside town with its Casino and spa, time for a little relaxation before exploring the local history and nature.

Whether you’re hiring a motorhome in England or hiring a motorhome in France the Côte d’Armor will charm you and is really a destination not to be missed.  For somewhere to stay click on Aires de Service on the Côte d’Armor.
