Motorhoming in Gers

Motorhoming in Gers

Situated in the south western half of the Midi-Pyrénées is the department of Gers at the heart of what is known as Gascony. This undulating countryside is crossed by many rivers flowing in their valleys.

Sample the delights of Gers in the capital of Gascony, Auch.  This is the land of the musketeers and the birth place of d’Artagnan and this lively welcoming town breathes the easy going pace of life and good living typical to the Gascogne people.  Wander through the old quarter of the town and appreciate the enormous Cathedral of Saint Marie, the Place Salinis with its 40m high, 14th century Tower of Armagnac.  There is also the quarter of Pousteries, linked from top to bottom by its steep stairways and the Rue Dessolles lined by beautiful buildings.

Marsiac is a little town in the south of the department, a 13th century walled city hidden away in the valleys of Gers.  The town hosts a yearly Jazz festival and holds events throughout the year and has an ambience typically Gascogne.  In Marsiac you can sample the local foie gras with the wines from the Côtes de Saint-Mont which all add to its authentic charm.

The Gers is the biggest producer of foie gras, a real delicacy which can be tasted in various different forms. There are several different good wines available in the department and also the Floc de Gascogne which is a mix of grape juice and Armagnac, a spirit produced in Gascony, which goes very well with the foie gras.

While you motorhome travel in France, use the Aires de Service in Gers before going motorhoming in the Tarn et Garonne, motorhoming in the Haute-Garonne or motorhoming in the Hautes-Pyrénées.
