Motorhoming in Val d’Oise
Val d’Oise is not situated on the big tourist routes of France and suffers most likely from being overshadowed by nearby Paris. It does however have much to offer if you are hiring a motorhome in Engand or hiring a motorhome in France. Val d’Oise has two regional national parks which help to preserve a large part of the department and it is one of the best conserved rural areas near to Paris.
The Château of Ecouen in the south of the department houses the National Museum of the Renaissance. A long list of celebrated French artists contributed to the creation of this imposing monument which today houses examples of all types of art such as tapestries, arms and ceramics and collections from the Renaissance period.
Equally worth a visit in the east is the Château and town of Auvers-sur-Oise. Internationally renowned for its historical links with French artists, particularly the impressionists, this is where Vincent Van Gogh painted seventy of his works of art during the final months of his life. A real kaleidoscope of images and sensations, 500 impressionist images are projected and presented along the ‘Voyage into the Time of the Impressionists’. You can also visit the church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption which was immortalised by Da Vinci in a canvas housed in the Orsay Museum in Paris. The church dates from the 12th century and was classed as a historical monument in 1955. The nearby 13th Abbey of Royaumont is also worth a visit and is open all year round. You can use the Aires de Service in Ile de France for overnight stays while continuing your tour of all of the châteaux, forests and parks which can be found in Val d’Oise.
