Motorhoming in Auvergne

Motorhoming in Auvergne

The Auvergne consists of four departments, the northern most of which, Allier, finds itself right in the middle of France.  Along with the Puy-de-Dôme, the Cantal and the Haute-Loire, this region will enable you to visit some spectacular and very different landscapes at the heart of France, notably the 3000km² of the Natoinal Park created around the volcanoes of the Auvergne with its rich and varied flora and fauna.  From the river banks of Allier, the rugged landscape of the Puy-de-Dôme, the summits of Cantal and the wooded lands of the Haute-Loire, if motorhome travel in France interests you, this is really a breathtaking starting point and if hiring a camping car in France you won’t be short of things to discover.

Here, the habitants resemble slightly their environment.  The villages, perched on rocky outcrops in the hollows of this volcanic landscape, are sprinkled with Roman Abbeys and splendid châteaux. If you’re motorhoming in the Puy-de-Dôme, the town of Clermont-Ferrand with its harsh winters, very hot summers and lack of rain is a perfect example of how the way of life reflects its surroundings.

In any case, if you’re a nature lover or an outdoor sports fan, you’ll find plenty to do in the Auvergne whilst discovering its rich culture and renowned cuisine.
